The manager will no doubt be looking to kick on from his side’s win over Chelsea, and to do that, the Northern Irishman is reportedly preparing to dip his hands into the transfer market. According to a report from Sky Sports, McKenna wants no less than five players in a range of different positions to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Sky claim that the Tractor Boys “are looking at strengthening down the right-hand side of the team, as well as looking at new strikers and midfielders”. Among those players they are said to be interested in are Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath, whom they tried and failed to land in the summer.

Latte Lath scored 18 goals in all competitions for Michael Carrick’s side last season, and has nine to his name this term. West Ham United are also understood to be interested in the Ivory Coast international, 26.

While Ipswich may sign a host of new players in January, there could also be a fair few departures. According to Sky Sports, Cameron Burgess, Luke Woolfenden and Massimo Luongo could all leave Portman Road over the next few weeks. All three players’ contracts expire at the end of the season, meaning they are free to talk to new clubs this month.

The future of Delap is also in question. Not only are Chelsea said to be interested in the former Manchester City star, Manchester United and their new manager Ruben Amorim are now looking at signing him in the summer.

However, aside from Kulusevski, who scored but still looked somewhat off his best, there was one starter from last night who almost single-handedly kept Spurs in the game, a player lauded by Messi over a decade ago.

So, to get straight to the point, the player in question is, of course, goalkeeping veteran Fraser Forster.

The six-capped Englishman spent a significant period of his career playing for Celtic, and it was with the Hoops that he left a seriously good impression on the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner following a 2-1 Champions League victory against Barcelona in 2012.

The 36-year-old was an immovable object for those 90 minutes, facing 14 shots on target and keeping the Catalans out until Messi finally scored a consolation goal in the 91st minute.

It was such an incredible showing from the Hexam-born shot-stopper that the Argentine megastar later told the press that it was the “best goalkeeping performance I have seen” and that the team “even talked about him playing here.”

Unfortunately for the Englishman, that path never presented itself to him, but last night, against Rangers, he rolled back the years once more and ensured that Spurs came away with a point from Ibrox.

In his 93 minutes of action, the “magnificent” veteran, as dubbed by former manager Neil Lennon, made five saves, four of which were inside the box, prevented 0.73 goals, made one punch and high claim, took 41 touches, maintained a passing accuracy of 85%, and made one clearance.

Unsurprisingly, it was a showing that impressed the watching press, with Gold awarding him an 8/10 match rating at full-time and crediting him for his ‘crucial’ save against Cyriel Dessers just five minutes from time.

The Rangers captain is on course to leave as a free agent in 2026 and the Scottish side would be saving themselves a lot of trouble by finding a replacement in either January or the summer transfer window rather than moving with panic in 2026.

"Tremendous" Barnett is good enough to replace Tavernier

Replacing a modern-day Rangers legend would be no easy task, but Barnett’s form suggests that he’d be more than capable of stepping up at Ibrox. The Wrexham right-back has five assists and one goal to his name in 16 appearances in all competitions so far this season, which is more goal involvements than Tavernier’s five in 20 appearances in the current campaign.

It’s recent form that would not have caught Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson by suprise given his previous praise for Barnett. Speaking after his side defeated Notts County 1-0 back in February, Parkinson told the club’s official YouTube channel: “If they go to a back four, Cameron will be up against Barney (Ryan Barnett), you know centre half playing left back.

“Give the ball to Barney because he’s tremendous in those situations and he produced some real good quality first half and second half.”

Unlike some of Rangers’ recruitment last summer, meanwhile, Barnett is not a player waiting to reach his peak, he is in it at this very moment. As the Gers potentially line up a 2025 move, the right-back should be high on Clement’s shortlist of targets.
