Rodgers could land Maeda upgrade with Celtic swoop for £8.3m star

da betsson: Celtic continued their fantastic start to the Scottish Premiership season with a seventh straight win in the division against Ross County away from Glasgow on Sunday.

da bwin: The Hoops had to battle from 1-0 down, thanks to a penalty from Ronan Vale, to secure all three points in Dingwall, winning 2-1 after their second-half comeback.

Goals from Alistair Johnston, who deflected Callum McGregor’s shot into the back of the net, and Nicolas Kuhn, who cut inside and passed a left-footed shot into the bottom corner, completed the comeback for the Scottish giants.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have now won all seven of their games in the Premiership and that penalty from Vale on Sunday was the first goal that Kasper Schmeichel had conceded in a league game for the club, having kept six clean sheets in his first six outings.

The summer signing has enjoyed a terrific start to life in Glasgow, and Auston Trusty, Arne Engels, Alex Valle, Paulo Bernardo, Adam Idah, and Luke McCowan also featured against Ross County after joining in the summer transfer window.

Rodgers could look to make further additions to his playing squad when the January transfer window opens for business midway through the campaign, and Daizen Maeda is one player who could be upgraded.

Daizen Maeda's mixed success in the Premiership

The Japan international had scored in three successive matches in all competitions ahead of the clash away at Ross County in the Premiership on Sunday.

In the 2-1 win at the weekend, Maeda endured a frustrating afternoon on the left flank for the Hoops. He had three shots and missed one ‘big chance’ and lost five of his six duels, as the winger ended the match with zero goals and zero assists.

The 26-year-old’s wasteful finishing has been a theme throughout his time under Rodgers since the start of last season, and has been evident in the Premiership this term.

As you can see in the table above, he has missed six ‘big chances’ and only scored two goals in six appearances, which shows that the winger has not made the most of the high-quality opportunities that his teammates have created for him so far.

In the 2023/24 campaign, Maeda only scored six goals in 28 league outings for the Scottish giants and spurned 12 ‘big chances’ in that time.

The Japanese forward also made just 0.5 key passes per game and ended that league campaign with three assists, which meant that the attacker failed to reach double figures for goals and assists combined.

Celtic's Daizen Maeda.

Since the start of last season, the Celtic winger has contributed with eight goals and five assists in 34 appearances, whilst missing 18 ‘big chances’.

With this in mind, Rodgers could land an upgrade on Maeda by swooping for a left winger with the quality to offer more in the final third – Bazoumana Toure.

Celtic's interest in Bazoumana Toure

Last month, Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt reported that Celtic are one of a number of teams interested in signing Hammarby youngster Toure in the January transfer window.

The outlet claimed that Hoops chief scout Joe Lefevre has been left impressed by the 18-year-old star’s superb performances in Sweden, and that the Scottish giants have a serious interest in the forward.

It added, however, that they will face significant competition to land his signature if they decide to pursue a deal for his services. Crystal Palace, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica, and Eintracht Frankfurt are all also keen on the talented winger.

Amid heavy interest from teams across Europe, Hammarby are said to be hoping to rake in a fee of around €10m (£8.3m) for the teenage starlet.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not any of the reportedly interested sides – including Celtic – are prepared to spend that kind of money on the Ivorian maestro.

Rodgers should now look to move quickly and secure a deal for Toure before any of the other teams are able to swoop in ahead of the Hoops, as the Hammarby phenomenon has the potential to come in as an upgrade on Maeda on the left flank from January onwards.

Why Celtic should sign Bazoumana Toure

Despite only turning 18 in March, shortly before his move to Hammarby from ASEC Mimosas, the winger has already showcased his ability to make a big impact in the final third.

The teenage sensation has produced seven goals and three assists in all competitions for the Swedish outfit this year, which shows that the youngster has the maturity and ability to provide regular quality at first-team level already.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig hailed him earlier this year, as shown in the post above, by describing the talented youngster as a “superb” player.

He backed his opinion up with the forward’s statistics in the Allsvenskan up to that point, which was in July, and the 18-year-old wizard has continued his fine form in recent months.

As you can see in the table above, Toure has matched Maeda’s goal and assist return from the 2023/24 campaign in nine fewer appearances, whilst only missing one ‘big chance’.

The electric forward, who has also created 1.2 chances per game in the 2024 campaign, has been far more clinical in front of goal than the Japan international this year, which suggests that he could offer a greater goal threat for the Hoops.

His 1.2 key passes per game are also more than double Maeda’s 0.5 key passes per match in the 2023/24 Premiership campaign, and this suggests that the youngster could also provide more creativity for the Scottish giants on the left flank.

If Toure can translate those performances over to the Premiership, and develop further – given he is just 18, then the teenage winger could come in as an upgrade on Maeda for Rodgers in the second half of the season and beyond, thanks to his quality as a scorer and a creator.

Rodgers must drop Hatate for Celtic star who made a "massive difference"

The Hoops boss should finally unleash the summer signing from the start.

Signed for £16m, Orta’s "massive" Leeds flop is now worth just £750k

da dobrowin: Leeds United supporters will be hoping that the wave of new signings that have entered through the door this summer gel well with the rest of the team moving forward, as a horror start to the new Championship season gets pushed firmly to one side.

da realbet: Already, the signs have been positive, with new loanee Manor Solomon assisting Mateo Joseph's clever strike to break the deadlock versus Hull City last time out, whilst both Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka also impressed from off the bench.

Daniel Farke will just be keeping everything crossed that none of his new buys end up becoming notable flops in West Yorkshire down the line, like Helder Costa ended up being, after costing the Whites an eye-watering £16m to purchase permanently back in 2020.

Helder Costa's career at Leeds

Initially impressing Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta during Leeds' triumphant promotion season, the Whites would break the bank to land Costa when moving up to the Premier League, which would then turn out to be a colossal waste of money.

The Angola international would help himself to four goals and six assists from 43 Championship clashes during the 2019/20 season, before finding his minutes lessen in the top flight, with only 22 games handed to him in the Premier League.

By the time the 2021/22 season rolled around, Costa had fallen way down the pecking order, with loans out to Valencia and Al-Ittihad delaying his eventual permanent exit from Elland Road.

It's not as if the Whites dud was on a cheap wage either, with his pay packet during his final campaign with the club coming in at a high £32.5k-per-week, as per Capology, which saw him rake in more than the likes of Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and other key first-teamers in the process.

The expensive former Leeds man did have moments of magic like the strike above against Fulham up his sleeve, but these sublime goals were very rare to come by towards the end of his stint in West Yorkshire, with Costa's time in England finally ending last year when Portuguese outfit G.D. Estoril Praia snapped him up.

His once staggering £16m valuation has since plummeted, however, with the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker's price tag now far less.

Helder Costa's transfer value in 2024

According to Football Transfers, Costa's value has taken a considerable hit, with the ex-Leeds number 17's estimated worth now standing at a meagre £750k.

The 30-year-old forward hasn't helped his own cause by managing no goals or assists from his first four games donning an Estoril strip, as his career continues to peter out even when he's far away from Leeds.

It's not as if this has been a sudden decline for Costa, however, with his value decreasing at a rapid pace year after year, with £8m falling off his price tag just 365 days into his doomed Whites career.

Wolves will just feel glad that they managed to offload their former attacker to Leeds, knowing that he could well have flopped at Molineux instead of Elland Road, after once costing the Old Gold an extortionate £13m in 2017.

It's no real shock that Costa isn't held in high regard by those with associations to Leeds now, but former Leeds man Noel Whelan ripped into the overpriced dud when he was still struggling at the club, labelling him a "massive flop" in 2021 when speaking to Football Insider.

Farke will pray that the likes of Ramazani and Tanaka aren't spoken about in a similar scathing manner at any stage during their stays in England, as Leeds look forward to Championship football kicking off again after the international break is up.

Ireland's chance to improve on near-misses as they gear up for South Africa

First T20I in Bristol could be crucial for Hendricks and Rossouw as well, who are vying for a limited amount of top-order places

Big pictureIn an ideal, and somewhat fairer cricketing world, series like this would take place more often. An established Full Member would play a more recently anointed one every few years, not just before a World Cup and not only to fill in a gap between series and it’d be a standalone, big-deal event. Almost like the tour South Africa had of Ireland last year, where they played three ODIs as part of the World Cup Super League and three T20Is, close but not quite as close as this one, to the T20I World Cup. But that doesn’t happen very often and Ireland won’t be complaining about an opportunity to get in more games against big names in what has finally been a busy season. They’ve hosted India and New Zealand so far but have yet to win a T20I series under new coach Heinrich Malan, who will be familiar to the South Africans. Malan played some provincial cricket at Northerns before relocating to New Zealand where he coached for almost a decade and then moved to Ireland and while his team have pushed their opponents to their limits, victory has still been elusive.Ireland ticked a major box when they qualified for the T20 World Cup in February but have lost six matches since then, some of them in heartbreaking fashion. They ran India close in the second game of their two-match series, and posted a decent total against New Zealand in the third match of that rubber but in between had a blow-out when they were bowled out for 91. Luckily for them, this series is not their last opportunity to fine-tune ahead of the T20 World Cup. They will host Afghanistan for five T20Is starting next week, which presents another opportunity to get things right ahead of a major tournament.South Africa, on the other hand, don’t have much time to tinker. They will play India in three T20Is just before the T20 World Cup and will likely go in with their World Cup squad. That leaves only these two matches to finalise what is becoming an increasingly complicated selection conundrum but, as stand-in captain David Miller said, rather a problem of too many options than too few. Most of the squad is in good form but Quinton de Kock will want to get some runs in the shortest format, where he hasn’t had a half-century in nine innings, and some of the reserves will be itching for an opportunity. Wayne Parnell, Dwaine Pretorius and Rassie van der Dussen were on the bench for the England series and will hope to get a chance as the white-ball section of South Africa’s UK tour comes to an end.Quinton de Kock will want to get in some big runs this series•AFP/Getty Images

Form guideIreland LLLLL (last five completed matches, most recent first)
South Africa WWLLLIn the spotlightThere’s some talk of Harry Tector being among those under consideration for CSA’s new T20 league and if the rumours are true, he will give South African fans a taste of what he can do. Known for striking the ball cleanly, Tector flexed his muscles with an unbeaten 64 off 33 balls against India earlier in the season and has gone on to enjoy the summer of his career. He has scored 384 in 14 ODIs at 76.80, including two hundreds in three matches against New Zealand and three successive fifties against West Indies; and 249 runs in nine T20Is at 35.57. Tector also has deals with teams in the 6ixty and the CPL and is well on his way to becoming Ireland’s most sought after franchise player. These matches are likely to be the last opportunity for Reeza Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw to secure their spots at the T20 World Cup. As South Africa’s most in-form top-order batters, it may seem unfair to make them prove themselves again but with de Kock a certain starter, Temba Bavuma likely to return from injury and options including Pretorius as a pinch-hitter at No. 3, the selectors could find themselves forced to pick between these two players. Better them than us. Hendricks has reeled off three half-centuries in a row, Rossouw struck a fearless 96* to allow South Africa to draw level in the series against England and are seeing and hitting the ball as well as ever.Team newsCraig Young was ruled out of the series with a groin injury which could give former South African under-19 player Graham Hume the opportunity for a T20I debut.Ireland (possible): 1 Paul Stirling, 2 Andy Balbirnie (capt), 3 Lorcan Tucker, 4 Harry Tector, 5 Gareth Delany, 6 George Dockrell, 7 Curtis Campher, 8 Mark Adair, 9 Barry McCarthy, 10 Graham Hume, 11 Josh LittleWith Kagiso Rabada injured, and three Tests against England looming, South Africa could have pace bowler rotation on their minds. That could mean a debut for Gerald Coetzee while Marco Jansen and allrounders Parnell and Pretorius being given a run. The batting line-up is likely to be unchanged, which will probably mean no room for van der Dussen.South Africa (possible): 1 Quinton de Kock (wk), 2 Reeza Hendricks, 3 Rilee Rossouw, 4 Aiden Markram 5 Tristan Stubbs, 6 David Miller (capt), 7 Andile Phehlukwayo, 8 Keshav Maharaj, 9 Anrich Nortje/Marco Jansen, 10 Lungi Ngidi, 11 Tabraiz ShamsiIreland have lost all five of their most recent T20Is•Sportsfile via Getty Images

Pitch and conditionsWith short straight boundaries, and fairly short square ones, Bristol is a ground where bowlers, and spinners in particular are put under pressure. England racked up their second-highest T20I score there last week and more than 400 runs were scored in their match against South Africa. Tabraiz Shamsi and Moeen Ali were the specialist bowlers who conceded most of the runs and it will be interesting to see how Shamsi, who finished the England series as the leading wicket-taker, comes back at this venue. For the big-hitters, this is a place to show their power and the likes of Tristan Stubbs and Paul Stirling will be looking to make big statements. There’s some drizzle on Wednesday morning but the forecast is dry for both matches.Stats and trivia Ireland and South Africa have only played three T20Is against each other, all of them last year. South Africa won the series 3-0. South Africa have only played one T20I match in Bristol, which they lost to England. Ireland have never played at the venue. Quotes”We’ve shown that when we stand up to these teams, we are capable of going blow-for-blow with them, and it feels that way within the group. The belief is there that we can beat these big teams, and not get nervous about any team we play. We go out there and want to win, we expect to win, and I guess that’s where it has been a bit disappointing this summer as we have got so close so many times. The flip side of that is that we know we’re not that far away, and we know we have better cricket in us as well, which is what is so exciting.”
“It will definitely be a new, exciting challenge for us. We played them quite recently in Ireland and we saw exactly what they could do. They are improving series by series, we saw them against India, and they are a team you can’t take for granted.”

"Strong" Celtic ace could return vs Aberdeen alongside McGregor and Kuhn

da dobrowin: In hope of getting one over on their surprise title rivals and advancing into the Scottish League Cup final, Celtic could now receive as many as three injury boosts against Aberdeen.

Celtic injury news

da blaze casino: The Bhoys were forced to square off against Dundee with a number of problems within their squad but eased to victory once again nonetheless, courtesy of goals just seven minutes apart from Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston from the bench. Sealing all three points, Celtic have now dropped just two points from their opening 10 Scottish Premiership games and sit nine points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers but level on points with the impressive Aberdeen.

Up next the Scottish champions once again do battle against their closest title rivals, this time squaring off in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, in which Celtic could welcome the returns of Callum McGregor, Nicolas Kuhn and another major boost in pursuit of the final.

As confirmed by Rodgers, Adam Idah could make his return vs Aberdeen alongside both McGregor and Kuhn this weekend after all three stars missed Celtic’s victory over Dundee in midweek.

European club may make new dream move for £12,000-p/w Celtic player in 2025

He’s currently out on loan.

ByTom Cunningham Oct 30, 2024

The Celtic boss told reporters as relayed by the Irish Examiner: “All three will be fine. Nicolas Kuhn had a sore hip after the game at the weekend. But he trained earlier, so that was good. Callum as well, and Adam also. We’ll see their reaction. Hopefully, it will be all right.

“I think he’s got away with one there, Adam. He’s still a bit sore, a bit swollen, but the medical team tell me he’s done a bit of work. So, hopefully no reaction to it.”

Rodgers heaps praise on "strong" Idah

Idah always looked unlikely to reach his full potential at Norwich City, despite breaking through the academy. And after a successful loan move in Scotland, a permanent move to Celtic instantly seemed on the cards. Since the switch, the Irishman has gradually shown signs of becoming the player many tipped him to become when he first emerged, scoring five goals in 13 games for the Bhoys.

Having avoided a serious injury concern, Idah will now be hoping to make his return in one of Celtic’s biggest games of the season so far before earning yet more praise from Rodgers.

The former Liverpool manager told STV after Idah scored the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final last season: “I knew what I was getting because I’d seen him in the Premier League at 18. He has all the attributes. He’s fast, dynamic, strong and I felt with better positioning he’d get goals.

“What he’s done since coming in is show that he’s a goalscorer. He gets different types of goals. He has great movement in the box and he deals with pressure moments.

“Today, he was like a real number nine sniffing in and around the box. He’s been absolutely immense for us and he’s clearly someone I’d like to do something with.”

Libby’s maiden double-century came in a total of 438 for 5 before Worcestershire declared with a lead of 218 on day three at the 1st Central County Ground, having banked maximum bonus points.Play didn’t start at Hove until 4.10pm because of rain and 84 overs have been lost in the match so far but Worcestershire quickly made up for lost time, Libby leading the charge as they thrashed 149 in 20 overs against some toothless bowling before the declaration.Sussex were left with ten overs to negotiate, and they lost skipper Tom Haines for 13 in the penultimate over when he played on to Joe Leach. They closed on 39 for 1, still 179 behind.Sussex had taken the new ball when play eventually began after heavy rain but it was soon being dispatched to all parts by Libby and Jack Haynes. Pakistan allrounder Faheem Ashraf came in for some harsh treatment, his three overs costing 30 runs including three successive boundaries by Libby which took him past his previous best score of 184.He added 96 in 22 overs with Haynes, who played on to Brad Currie for 31, but skipper Brett D’Oliveira kept up the momentum when he joined Libby. D’Oliveira offered a difficult chance off a top-edged pull but Ali Orr, running round the boundary, couldn’t quite hold on as he stepped over the rope. Otherwise, the pair scored at more than seven runs an over even though Sussex had seven fielders on the boundary.Libby brought up his 200 with a single off James Coles and offered his first chance on 204, but wicketkeeper Oli Carter spilled a straightforward opportunity moving to his right. Libby was eventually dismissed by Coles shaping to cut, having faced 294 balls, hit 25 fours and a six in a highly impressive innings spanning six hours, 38 minutes spread over three days.It was his team’s second double-hundred of this season following Azhar Ali’s 235 against Leicestershire in May and the highest score by a Worcestershire batter against Sussex, beating Graeme Hick’s 186 at Hove in 1991. The declaration came when Ashraf had D’Oliveira, whose 43 off 38 balls included two sixes, was caught behind for 43.

Graeme Smith: 'You might be down to five or six nations that play Test cricket'

Former South Africa captain says CSA’s new T20 league will bring an investment that their game desperately needs

Firdose Moonda19-Aug-2022

Test cricket could be played by only five or six countries with competitive teams in the future, according to former South Africa captain Graeme Smith. Speaking on on day three of the first Test between South Africa and England at Lord’s, Smith, who is now Cricket South Africa’s T20 league commissioner, said he didn’t think South Africa “have any intent to not play Test cricket,” but that the format appears destined to shrink overall.”With Test cricket, it’s just iconic nations or the big cricketing nations that are contributing to Test cricket at the moment,” Smith said. “I think it’s fantastic especially under Virat Kohli that India really took Test cricket seriously. They lead the way with that. But as long as we’ve got competitive teams, you’re not going to have 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14 competitive teams. You might only be down to five or six nations that play Test cricket at this level.”Smith’s comments came on the back of the ICC’s new FTP, according to which South Africa play fewer Tests in the next cycle (2023-2027) than the current one (2019-2023) and no three-Test series in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship (WTC).CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki explained that their calendar was constrained by their new T20 league and the financial implications of hosting Test cricket but understood there would be disappointment with their sparse fixture list. The South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) were among the first to voice their frustration.”We are disappointed with the lack of Test cricket. For youngsters, it’s the optimum test of your cricket ability,” Andrew Breetze, SACA CEO told ESPNcricinfo. “With fewer Tests being played and more two-Test series, Test cricket is being diluted. If you look at what FICA and SACA have been saying for the last five years, we said that the ICC should take ownership of this by looking at how we balance bilateral cricket with T20 events and if they don’t do that we are going to see Test cricket being diminished by the non-big three. We are there. And that’s disappointing.”Related

CSA downsizes international commitments to make room for new T20 league

CSA forfeits Australia ODIs to secure 'long-term sustainability of the game' in South Africa

Despite that, SACA and its members (South African domestic and international players) will throw their weight behind the new T20 league as they recognise the pivotal role it will play in keeping South African cricket sustainable. “We support the league. The league is critical for the survival of cricket in South Africa,” Breetzke said. “We’ve got three sources of revenue for cricket in South Africa – broadcast revenue, sponsorship and ICC revenue. Two of those are reducing, and because of that, we’ve got to find a source of revenue and that is the T20 league.”Broadcast revenue and sponsorships are the two streams that are shrinking, partly because of the state of the global game and economy and partly because of CSA’s recent administrative meltdown. “If you are not playing India enough, your broadcast revenue is down,” Breetzke said. “Sponsorship revenue is two-fold because we’re not playing as much and because of the last five years at CSA. No-one wants to get involved in our cricket and that’s the sad reality. There is a lot of work for CSA – and to give them credit they are doing it – to enhance the work of CSA and to get sponsors. That’s more critical than ever. The market has changed post Covid. You are not getting those 18-million-rand-a-year Standard Bank sponsorships. The market is more about short-term sponsorship deals, smaller sponsorship and more specific sponsorship. That’s where CSA have to up their game.”Graeme Smith: ‘I don’t think world cricket can afford South Africa or any one of the top nations to start fading away’•BCCI

The six teams in CSA’s new league have all been bought by IPL owners, a development that will inject unprecedented amounts of money into the country’s game. “It’s certainly going to be an investment into our game that South African cricket desperately needed,” Smith said. “The pressures on nations like New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa to stay financially sustainable to keep up with England, India, and the world game to stay competitive is hugely important. I don’t think world cricket can afford South Africa or any one of the top nations to start fading away.”Asked whether he thought there were any dangers to private ownership, Smith said he did not see any drawbacks. “Cricket South Africa is still the major shareholder in this league. The investment into the South African game is still going to happen. It’s not people coming in and taking cricket away from the federation. A big part of this private ownership is that these owners had to look at the grassroots programmes, development programmes and how they would impact that. Hopefully we’ll see a talent pool would really get stronger and stronger and benefit cricket across the board. We needed partners that were sustainable. They’re not looking to make a dollar early on, they were prepared to invest in South Africa and grow this opportunity with us. And I think the key difference for us is that the money will still flow back into the game.”Given all the promises of the new league, CSA has been willing to move other commitments aside, including future Test engagements and forfeiting World Cup Super League matches in Australia next January. Smith said it was a necessary sacrifice, which was actually a lot smaller than it may seem. “For four weeks of an entire year, the priority will be the league. I feel that if we hadn’t done this South African cricket could have probably lost eight to ten players to this UAE league,” he said. “People also look at those three ODIs wrong. Yes, South Africa hasn’t handled ODI cricket as well and it should never be in this position. But for South Africa to be in Australia out of their key part of the summer financially is a huge stress for them. It’s like asking England not to play during your summer. The commitment that South African cricket made to go for the three Test matches is good for the game. It’s something that won’t happen often.”South Africa will not travel to Australia for Tests at all in the next FTP, and overall they also play fewer ODIs than any of the other Full Members, and the third-lowest number of bilateral matches in total after Ireland and Zimbabwe. That number may increase after ongoing discussions with other members.Moseki said CSA were looking at ways to organise more ODIs before the 2027 World Cup but SACA hoped additional fixtures can also be secured before then. “It’s placed CSA in a position where they have to go out and negotiate additional white-ball matches,” Breetzke said. “If you look at that FTP and you look at areas there, there’s a negotiation for additional matches. Relationships are going to be critically important as to can we enhance that FTP with white-ball cricket.”

O goleiro afirmou que está focado em seu trabalho e que busca ganhar títulos pelo Tricolor paulista. Para ele, resultados positivos são essenciais para reverter este quadro de desconfiança dos torcedores.

– Venho trabalhando, me dedicando para entregar o melhor.

Todas as derrotas doem.

Better than Van Nistelrooy: Leicester want to hire "genius" Cooper upgrade

Leicester City are in the market to find a replacement for Steve Cooper.

A 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Saturday lunchtime was the final straw for the club’s board, as they made the decision to sack Cooper, after he only joined the club in the summer as Enzo Maresca’s replacement. Cooper struggled to make a good impact at the King Power Stadium, as the Foxes conceded the third-highest number of goals in the league, behind just Southampton and Wolves, and they also conceded the opening goal in 10 of their 12 league games.

Now that Leicester have sacked Cooper, their search for a replacement has begun, and one manager who has been linked with the role for a while now is Graham Potter. The Englishman has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in 2023 and has been rumoured to be interested in the Leicester job.

However, BBC Sport reports that Potter is not currently under consideration to replace Cooper. Potter and the Leicester board have not spoken since the summer, when he held advanced talks over joining the club but was unable to agree to a deal. At this time, Potter isn’t under consideration, as Leicester have their eye on another manager who is out of work.

Leicester City now eyeing move for new 4-3-3 manager as Potter alternative

According to Football Insider, Ruud van Nistelrooy is on Leicester City’s managerial shortlist. The Foxes are back in action on Saturday, as they travel to London to face Brentford, and they will hope this week there can be significant movement in their search for a new manager.

Van Nistelrooy has just become unemployed, as he left Manchester United two weeks ago after joining the Red Devils in the summer as Erik ten Hag’s assistant and then taking over as caretaker manager when he was sacked. The Dutchman took interim charge of four United games, overseeing three wins and one draw, but Ruben Amorim made the decision to let Van Nistelrooy leave and not have him as part of his backroom team.

Now this report states that van Nistelrooy, who likes to operate a 4-3-3 as manager, is considered a “wildcard candidate” by Leicester, as he impressed in his short time in charge at United. As well as his spell at United, Nistelrooy also did very well in his time at PSV, where he won the Dutch Cup in his first season.

The 48-year-old faced the Foxes twice during his time in charge of the Red Devils and came out on top in a 5-2 win in the Carabao Cup, as well as a 3-0 win in the Premier League, in his last game in charge before his departure. Those results may have now put him on the Foxes’ radar, as unrest in the dressing room led to the departure of Cooper.
