Ederson considering leaving CityGuardiola wants to keep BrazilianOrtega would become number oneWHAT HAPPENED?
Ederson has been hotly-linked with a move to Al-Ittihad throughout the summer and is believed to be interested in a move to Saudi Arabia. It has been reported that Ederson was disappointed with the praise his deputy Stefan Ortega received following the Brazilian's injury that kept him out of the final stages of the season. Despite this, Guardiola has not given up hope of keeping Ederson at the club.

Hoping to persuade the keeper to stay, Guardiola said: "I wish with the bottom of my heart Eddie will continue with us… I would love him to stay. I cannot imagine our processes succeeding these last seasons without him. He is an important figure in the locker room."
DID YOU KNOW?
Since joining City from Benfica in 2017, Ederson has won a total of 17 trophies including six Premier League titles, one Champions League, one Club World Cup, two FA Cups and four League Cups. Should the goalkeeper depart for Saudi, he will leave the club as one their most-decorated players.

Should a transfer to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia materialise, Ederson could join a side that boasts the likes of Karim Benzema, Moussa Diaby and N'Golo Kante. He could be followed to Saudi by team-mate Kevin De Bruyne whose future remains in the balance. Meanwhile, City will likely stick with Ortega in goal as their number one and seek a new back-up.
Warwickshire director of sport says it’s “only human nature” for players and staff to worry about jobs
Matt Roller12-May-2020Everyone working in cricket is “in the firing line” as the English game comes to terms with the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting financial fallout, according to Warwickshire’s sport director, Paul Farbrace. No professional cricket will be played in the UK until July 1 at the earliest as things stand, and while the ECB’s plans to host internationals behind closed doors were boosted on Monday as the government’s latest strategy indicated provisional support, the prospects of counties playing in front of fans this summer appear to be slim.Farbrace, who joined Warwickshire last year after five years as England’s assistant coach, told ESPNcricinfo that “there are going to be some tough decisions to make” over the coming months, as counties face up to the possibility of a full season without cricket.ALSO READ: Cautious PCB open to possibility of touring England”There’s no doubt that cricket is going to have to look very carefully and closely at itself and work out what the best way forward it,” he said. “Every single one of us is in the firing line – it doesn’t matter what position you’re in, every single club will look at its financial situation and work out what the best thing is to do.”The game is really in a tough place. The ECB have been fantastic, very consistent in their communication to clubs, and the support they’ve given financially across the board has been excellent.”But we all know that the ECB doesn’t have endless pots of money, and we all know that the game is taking a massive hit. All the time England aren’t playing, and Sky aren’t getting what they want, which is live cricket to show, there is going to be a knock-on effect across the board.”There will be 134 male players out of contract at the end of this season, while female players who were expecting to become professional this summer with one of the ECB’s 40 new contracts, supplemented by their Hundred deals, have been left without the anticipated source of income. While discussions between the PCA and various stakeholders are ongoing, it seems inevitable that counties will have to cut costs over the winter, and with opportunities to prove themselves likely to be scarce, many players could face unemployment at the end of the season. “Normally it’s black and white: you’re judged on performance, runs and wickets are your currency,” Sussex opener Luke Wells said last month. “But if we play no red-ball cricket whatsoever, what happens?”Farbrace said that it was “only human nature” for players and staff to look ahead to the prospect of end-of-year appraisals fearing the worst.”It has crossed my mind, and it’ll have crossed the mind of every director of cricket and coach in the game,” he said. “It’s a big thing. We know that they are player in the last year of their contracts who are not getting the opportunity to earn another one at this stage.”And with every passing week, and every pound that’s being lost from the game because of no cricket [being played], everybody knows more clearly that there are going to be some tough decisions to make. There’s a lot of us within the game that earn our living and pay our bills from cricket, and there could be a lot of changes going forward.”Ultimately, what we want is to come out of it with 18 first-class counties, and as many people as possible to still be in their jobs. Nobody has a crystal ball. There’s been a bit of encouragement in the last few days but we have to understand that 300 people [in the UK] still lost their lives yesterday – that’s the sobering fact.”Farbrace also fears that the game may have missed the opportunity to make the most of a watershed 2019 summer which featured a World Cup win and a dramatic Ashes series, and is desperate for sport to return even if it has to be behind closed doors.”I genuinely worry about the state of the game, and whether we can build on what was a fantastic year for English cricket. We’ve had the women and now the men with the World Cup – there was going to be a lot of money spent this year across the game. It’s important that we get that momentum going again, and we get people really feeling part of the game.”There had never been a better time to cash in and keep interest in the game going on the back of last summer. Even if England have to play behind closed doors, I don’t really mind – I think at the moment quite a few of us would watch a five-a-side game of cricket in a car park, we’re that desperate.”It’s brilliant that Sky have been showing stuff like the 2005 Ashes, but I know the result. You can only watch it for 20 minutes. The whole beauty of sport is not knowing what’s going to happen, the World Cup final, the Stokes innings at Headingley last year, the Buttler innings at Old Trafford in 2018, the narrative of Leachy in the Ashes. The sooner we have something that we don’t know the result of, the better.”We need to think about wellbeing, and sport does give you a lift – it’s the most important of the unimportant things. If it has to be behind closed doors on TV, so be it. If a few hundred people can watch it at the ground, even better. But we have to be sensible, and we’re not going to do anything that will put people in jeopardy: if we can see that it’s safe, then we obviously want to see sport played again.”
Nazariy Rusyn's late strike would send the Sunderland away supporters into pandemonium away at Middlesbrough yesterday, the Ukrainian striker's wild effort somehow trickling into the back of the net to gift Michael Beale's men a share of the points.
In truth, the travelling Black Cats would have been happier with the 1-1 draw with many of the Sunderland attackers having an off-day in front of goal away from the heroics of Rusyn from off the bench.
In particular, Abdoullah Ba had a wretched afternoon against Michael Carrick's Boro despite starring for the Black Cats in recent Championship matches before this close contest.
This could result in Beale looking to freshen his side up for their next second-tier game against Plymouth Argyle this coming weekend, the ex-Rangers boss now tempted to gift Romaine Mundle his first chance to impress ahead of the lacklustre Sunderland number 17.

Abdoullah Ba's season in numbers
It's fair to say that the 20-year-old Frenchman must frustrate large patches of the Sunderland masses whenever he takes to the field, a world-beater one day and then completely wasteful the other.
In total for Beale's promotion chasers this season, Ba has notched up three goals and four assists from 29 games in all competitions with his display against Stoke City recently the main highlight of his up-and-down campaign to date.
The dynamic attacker would singlehandedly steer Sunderland to a confident 3-1 victory with a goal and two assists, despite only accumulating 37 touches against Steven Schumacher's visitors.

Yet, as much as Ba was impactful in this enthralling encounter versus Stoke, he was way off the pace against Boro to showcase the inconsistencies still present in his game as a youngster learning the ropes after shooting up to the senior side from the U21s.
Despite amassing four more touches versus Boro than his fruitful day at the office against the Potters, Ba was nullified by the hosts all game with Beale then having to resort to utilising Rusyn late on to gain something from the tight clash.

This below-par showing from the £4.4 per week winger – who was once described as "superb" by football journalist Philip West – could well open up the floor for Deadline Day signing Mundle to come in and strut his stuff.
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur attacker will be eager to follow in the footsteps of Jack Clarke, who himself has excelled at the Stadium of Light after waving goodbye to north London.

Why Mundle comes into the team
With question marks still present over Patrick Roberts' fitness and whether he can last a full 90 minutes currently, Mundle could be gifted a start against the Pilgrims as a result.
Adept at playing down both channels, Mundle's main joy playing for Spurs U21s came from down the right wing – helping himself to four goals and four assists playing there from 21 appearances.
Joining Standard Liege, after departing his boyhood club, Mundle showed glimpses of his quality whilst out in Belgium with one 24-minute display standing out against Club Brugge last year.
Despite only being on the pitch for a brief spell, Mundle successfully completed one dribble attempt and notched up one key pass.
Moreover, the former Spurs youngster's tenacity and aggression was evident in trying to help his team fight back in the contest Liege would eventually lose 2-0 – winning five ground duels in total, despite being on the pitch for barely 30 minutes.
Sunderland's approach in the transfer window didn't shy away from trying to unearth young and hungry gems once more, with the hope being that Mundle can become a star in the Black Cats first-team fold over time.
That could well come, however, at the expense of Ba if the 20-year-old continues to blow hot and cold for the Championship side.
Jarrad Branthwaite's last-gasp, close-range header handed Everton a reprieve from the vertiginous problems painting their half of Merseyside a solemn shade of blue, but Tottenham Hotspur will be dismayed that they squandered the chance to clinch back-to-back victories in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou's summer appointment has refuelled the fire in the north London club after a tough period, anointed to spark vision and verve back into an ambitious outfit that had trundled to an eighth-placed finish in 2022/23.
Ange Postecoglou.
In fairness, Spurs are just two points behind Aston Villa in the top four, having bolstered in January, seen key players filter back in from the medical room and put the skid before the festive period firmly behind them.
However, Postecoglou fashioned a blistering start to the season and while this highlighted the quality within the squad, it camouflaged the issues that will take more than a couple of months to do away with.

The Lilywhites suffered a setback in their bid to secure a top-four berth…

The winter additions were a step toward plastering such cracks and aggressive Radu Dragusin and versatile Timo Werner have strengthened Spurs' accord, and while the latter has slotted right into the starting line-up, he was unable to produce a convincing performance against Sean Dyche's men.
Timo Werner's game vs Everton in numbers
Spurs took the lead on two occasions at Goodison Park courtesy of Richarlison's red-hot goalscoring form – that's nine goals from eight matches in the Premier League now – but Werner was unable to complement the talisman effectively on Saturday afternoon.
Signed from RB Leipzig on a six-month loan (with a buy option inserted for around £15m), Werner, aged 27, placed assists across his first two league appearances for Tottenham but failed to impress against a Toffees backline braided with resilience and boosted by a cacophonous home support.
Timo Werner applauding Tottenham supporters.
Against Everton, as per Sofascore, Werner completed 86 minutes of action but took just 26 touches – only three more than Dejan Kulusevski, who replaced Brennan Johnson after the hour mark – and while he completed 80% of his 20 attempted passes, making one key pass, there wasn't enough on offer to convince Postecoglou that he is deserving of a regular starting berth.
Indeed, having won just one duel and failed to even attempt a dribble or take a shot, the former Chelsea forward flattered to deceive and few would bemoan Postecoglou if he were to relegate him to the bench next time out.

Handing the German international a lowly 4/10 match rating, football.london correspondent Alasdair Gold penned his thoughts on an ineffectual effort: 'Caused Everton some problems with his runs down the left and had one effort saved before being flagged offside. He could have had more conviction in getting to a Johnson cross that was instead intercepted by Godfrey.'
While Werner struggled to perform, he wasn't the only player to miss the mark on Merseyside, with centre-midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur failing to spark any invention into the Spurs attack and consequently leaving Werner with little fuel from which to engineer openings.
Rodrigo Bentancur's performance vs Everton
Bentancur has started the past four Premier League matches for the Lilywhites after returning from injury problems that ruled him out of most of the first phase of the campaign, but it's probably fair to say he's been something of a mixed bag thus far.
Hooked shortly after 60 minutes for the industrious Oliver Skipp, Bentancur was nullified in the centre of the park and failed to make an impact, unable to place a single key pass and winning just three of his 12 contested duels.
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur applauding supporters.
While Gold provided Bentancur with a marginally better match score than Werner – giving him a 5/10 – he did note: 'Another very quiet display from the Uruguayan who seems to be still feeling his way back into regular Premier League football.'
It wasn't that the 27-year-old was objectively bad, he's just not maximising his myriad of midfield tools and is struggling to slot himself right back into prominent standing.
But then, of course, this will hardly fill Postecoglou with worry; the 6 foot 1 Bentancur spent the lion's share of 2023 on the sidelines and has been plunged back into the deep end over the past month and a bit.
Described as "technically immense" by broadcaster Adam Smith, Bentancur has enjoyed some moments since his comeback, scoring a well-taken goal to restore parity against Manchester United at Old Trafford several weeks ago, and kept it crisp with his passing.
Though he wasn't at the races against Everton and a case could be made that he was off the race in midweek against Brentford, substituted at half-time with the home side trailing.
There is, in what will be mellifluous words to Spurs supporters' ears, a solution, with Pape Matar Sarr replacing his South American counterpart against the Blues, having returned from the African Cup of Nations this week after Senegal's exit.
Sarr has started 16 times in the league this season, posting two goals and two assists, and is proving himself to be one of the division's hottest prospects; his return from AFCON is massive.
Spurs midfielder Pape Sarr celebrating against Bournemouth.
As per FBref, the 21-year-old ranks among the top 10% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shots taken, the top 9% for assists, the top 18% for pass completion and the top 19% for progressive passes per 90.
Moreover, he's averaging five ball recoveries per game in the Premier League this season and will bring the energy and tenacity needed to ensure that Tottenham take control of midfield battles over the coming months.
With Yves Bissouma's Mali knocked out of AFCON on Saturday, Postecoglou will soon boast an engine room in its full force and the burden on Bentancur's shoulders will be eased somewhat, allowing him to continue to build up fitness and rekindle his best form.
Tottenham dropped points against Everton and lost their short-lived hold on the top four. Still, there is much to be confident about going forward and there is every chance that a return to the continent's pinnacle competition will be achieved in May.
Bangladesh team simulate different scenarios they could face in their maiden pink-ball Test in Kolkata

Bangladesh want to get as much practice as possible with the pink ball in time for the Kolkata Test. This much has been evident from their training routine and intensity in the two days following their three-day defeat by India in the first Test in Indore. The focus has been specifically to train in the twilight zone, when the sun goes down and the floodlights begin to take full effect. At the Holkar Stadium on Monday, they went a step further by trying to simulate different possibilities, including dipping the ball in water to try and adjust to the possibility of bowling with a dew-wet ball. While Sunday was an optional training session, the entire team was in attendance on Monday, as they spent three hours at the centre wickets. Head coach Russell Domingo put them through longer-than-usual slip catching drills – wicketkeeper Liton Das, Imrul Kayes, Shadman Islam and Mohammad Mithun – were in the cordon, an indication that they are perhaps not going to tweak their batting order much for Kolkata.Mehidy Hasan, the offspinning allrounder, had a long batting stint in one of the three nets, and later said he had picked up a lot of information about the behavior of the pink ball.”The pace bowlers will continue to bowl by dipping the ball on water in the coming days,” Mehidy said of the training methods. “I think we can adapt in the coming days. Maybe it will skid a little more when it is wet. Spinners can get to skid the ball. There’s also likely to be bounce and turn.”I batted against the pink ball. It was moving and goes off rapidly after pitching. It goes off the bat quite quickly too. I think it swings more, and you can cut the ball too. We are still new to the pink ball. We haven’t got a lot of time with it but we are trying to cover as much as possible. There will be an initial struggle, but it will only get better as we go along. But it will be important to play for long, particularly after a batsman has adjusted to it.”The general feedback after the two sessions was that most of the players “found it challenging” to sight the ball properly at twilight. “There’s not a lot of problem seeing it while catching and fielding, but we have to be careful during the match,” Mehidy said. “The seam can be sighted at times, but there are occasions when you can’t see it.”
Ali Maiden is leaving his post as England Women’s assistant coach to join Leicestershire and will be replaced by Tim Macdonald, the Perth Scorchers’ WBBL bowling coach, for the Women’s T20 World Cup.Macdonald will be reunited with fellow Australian Lisa Keightley, the Scorchers’ WBBL head coach who was recently appointed England Women’s head coach. He flew to England last week to join the team for the lead-up to and duration of the Women’s T20 World Cup, which starts in Australia on February 21.Maiden, who has been part of the England Women’s set-up since 2011, will become Leicestershire’s new Head of Talent Pathway. After joining England Women as their lead batting coach, Maiden became Mark Robinson’s assistant in 2017 and together the pair helped captain Heather Knight and her team lift the Women’s World Cup in 2017.When Robinson left following England’s home Ashes defeat last year, Maiden took over as interim England Women’s coach for the recent series against Pakistan in Malaysia, where England won all six matches – three T20Is and three ODIs.”We had many achievements, none better than winning the World Cup in 2017 at Lord’s, and I have learnt much from a period in my career that I will never forget,” Maiden said. “I wish Lisa, Heather and the rest of the team all the very best for the future, starting at the T20 World Cup in February.”ECB Managing Director of Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor, described Maiden as “a tremendous asset to England Women’s cricket”.”He has obviously played a significant role in taking the senior team forward over the last eight years, but he has also made a significant contribution to the development of England Women’s Academy players throughout several winters,” Connor said.”Ali’s enthusiasm, dedication and passion for the game, and for batting in particular, has been infectious and it has been wonderful to watch so many players improve as a result of his work with them. We will all miss Ali enormously and we wish him every success for the future.”
Since signing Fabio Silva on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the start of the month, Rangers have endured a fairly quiet January transfer window. However, that hasn't stopped the transfer rumours from pouring in, with the Gers looking to add even more attacking reinforcements to Philippe Clement's squad.
Rangers transfer news
Throughout the month, Rangers have been linked with a number of new forwards, from Michy Batshuayi all the way to Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland. With just seven days left in the January transfer window, however, it remains Silva and Silva only to have walked through the door at Ibrox.
That could be set to change soon though, and not with the arrival of Shankland or, indeed, Batshuayi. Instead, reports indicate that Nordsjaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande is set to undergo a medical ahead of signing for Rangers this month.
Diomande looks set to complete a move worth a reported £4.5m in what could provide Clement a major boost in pursuit of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. The Gers may not be done after Diomande, either. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rangers are still working on more names.
Reporter says he's "been told" of exciting striker news at Rangers
There has been a twist in the saga.
ByHenry Jackson Jan 22, 2024
Romano told GiveMeSport: “I think Rangers will look at some opportunities. They are working on some names, so, obviously, now it's time to enter into concrete stages of negotiations. I expect them to try to make something happen in the window's final days.”
With that said, it could prove to be a busy week for Rangers as they look to end the January transfer window in style. Whether that results in a fresh face to lead the line alongside Silva remains to be seen, but an offensive addition would certainly be welcome at Ibrox, that's for sure.
Where Rangers must improve
Well aware that his side still need further additions, Clement recently spoke about the chance that Rangers complete more January business, saying via Rangers News: "Everybody’s aligned about that, that we need a few more in certain positions. And everybody in the club who is involved in that is working day and night about that, I know.
"We are a lot in contact. It’s been really busy with those things but until a signature is set by three parties – player, we, and the other team – until that is not done, it’s not done.
“So I am waiting and I am focused on the players who are here, beside all the talks that we have with other players and looking at other players. So that’s my job to do in January. That’s why for every manager, when it’s the first of February, we are always very happy that this hectic period can stop.”
Rangers winger Abdallah Sima.
When looking at the current Rangers squad, even after the arrival of Silva, they could still do with an out-and-out goalscorer to lead the line. Sam Lammers' loan exit also raises the need to welcome a fresh face and that, alongside Abdallah Sima's lengthy injury blow, has potentially left the Gers with no choice but to return to the market this month.
The Zimbabwe opener suffered the injury during a practice game against South Africa in Arundel and might be out for four to six weeks
Firdose Moonda05-Jun-2025Ben Curran suffered a fracture to his right hand on the second day of Zimbabwe’s warm-up game against South Africa at Arundel. Curran was hit by a Kagiso Rabada delivery in the fifth over of Zimbabwe’s innings and retired hurt on 4. He was treated at the ground and taken for an x-ray which confirmed the fracture.ESPNcricinfo understands that the injury is unlikely to require surgery but that Curran could still spend around four to six weeks out of action, which would rule him out of Zimbabwe’s home Tests against South Africa later this month. South Africa will play two matches in Bulawayo starting on June 28.Curran, the middle brother in a trio that includes England internationals Sam and Tom, made his debut for Zimbabwe in December last year and has played six Tests, including their most recent one against England, and six ODIs as well. He is yet to be capped in the T20I format. He has opened the batting in all his Tests, as he did in the match at Arundel, which does not have first-class status. Zimbabwe spent 79 overs in the field before South Africa declared on 313 for 2, and gave themselves an hour to bowl at Zimbabwe at the end of the day. Rabada and Marco Jansen shared the new ball and bowled with good pace and discipline. After Rabada hit Curran, he had Brian Bennett caught at gully to give South Africa their first wicket on the tour. Rabada was replaced by Lungi Ngidi, who broke Nick Welch’s bat in the closing exchanges of play. There has only been one day of play possible in the fixture so far after the opening day was washed out and the third day appears likely to go the same way. With rain around Arundel, it was confirmed that there will be no play until at least the second session on Thursday. Friday’s forecast also appears grim, which may mean South Africa head to London for the World Test Championship final against Australia with minimal match practice. They will have three days of training at Lord’s the final starts on June 11.Zimbabwe return home after the Arundel match to prepare to host South Africa for two Tests and a T20I tri-series, which also includes New Zealand. They will then play two Tests against New Zealand, the T20 World Cup Qualifiers and two Tests against Afghanistan later in the year.
Sitting mid-table and already 12 points adrift of the Premier League's top four, to say that Chelsea's transfer tactic is yet to pay off would be an incredible understatement. Mauricio Pochettino's side just can't seem to gain any consistency, with three wins and two losses in their last five league games summing things up. And now that the January transfer window is open, the Blues could be set to shake things up even further, for better or for worse.
That said, reports suggest that Chelsea have opened talks to sign one particular Bundesliga gem ahead of Championship promotion contenders Leicester City to continue their trend of signing young players.
Chelsea transfer news
After welcoming Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and many others in a major summer overhaul, Chelsea would have been hoping to make their return to the Premier League's top six. For all the money they've spent, however, Chelsea have had very little to show for it, with Palmer the only real standout arrival so far.
Nonetheless, Todd Boehly is seemingly sticking to his guns when it comes to his transfer policy and could now land another young player who could become a future star.
Chelsea make transfer plan to land dream Boehly move for "complete" star
The Blues could solve their striker problem once and for all…
ByTom Cunningham Jan 2, 2024
According to Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea have opened talks to sign Wolfsburg centre-back David Odogu, who is ready for a new challenge and open to leaving the Bundesliga club this month, amid interest from the Blues and Leicester City.
As the weeks go on, the young defender could certainly be one to keep an eye on, especially if Chelsea advance their interest even further.
Chelsea move could be too soon for Odogu
Yet to make a Bundesliga appearance this season, Odogu must take care in choosing his next move, especially with Chelsea interested. The London giants have signed a number of young, talented players in the last year or so, before watching on as they struggle to make an impact. One example of that is Romeo Lavia, who has had his injury problems but has also featured just once in league action. Now, the former Southampton midfielder is at risk of becoming a forgotten man.
That's a fate that Odogu will be desperate to avoid, meaning that Leicester could be a far more suitable option this month. A young side gunning for silverware in the Championship should make for a far better environment for a young defender than that of a falling giant in the Premier League. As the weeks go on, the U17 World Cup star could be thrown into the centre of transfer news with a big decision to make. The 17-year-old is certainly one to keep an eye on, no matter where he ends up.

Wharton was on media duties for England ahead of their final group game at Euro 2024 and said Prince William made a surprise visit following the 1-1 draw against Denmark. The Crystal Palace midfielder said he delivered a positive pep talk and reminded the players that the dropped points do not matter too much.

During the pre-match press conference, Wharton said of Prince William's words to the squad: "He was just trying to keep us all positive. He was saying it's not the end of the world. We were thinking 'We're still top of the group, we didn't lose, we got a draw, we've just got to reflect on the game, see how we can get better and look forward to the next game.' That's all you can do in tournament football."

Prince William also made an appearance at St. George's Park before the England squad flew out to Germany. He has been a prominent motivational figure amongst the squad as the Three Lions look to go one step further than their Euro 2020 final appearance.

England will round their group stage campaign off on Tuesday evening against Slovenia. Gareth Southgate's men have fate in their own hands and know a win will see them top the pile ahead of the knockout stages.
