Since the arrival of David Moyes, Everton have been on a heavy upward trajectory, winning four of their last nine games, drawing three and only losing two.
This run includes a huge 3-2 victory over Tottenham and a blockbuster 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park.
Everton manager DavidMoyes on the touchline before the match
Moyes’ side now find themselves 16th in the Premier League after 27 games played and have managed to extend their gap from the relegation zone to 15 points, now sitting closer to the European places than the dreaded drop.
Everton are still only averaging 40% possession (2nd lowest in the Premier League) and are only taking 11 shots per game (4th fewest in the league), so whilst Moyes has done a good job bringing more goals to the side, their overarching attacking numbers haven’t massively improved.
Everton's attacking unit under David Moyes
So far this season, Everton have only scored 27 goals (the 4th fewest in the division) from 33.38 xG generated, underachieving their xG by -6.38.
Since Moyes took charge, the Toffees have scored 15 goals in their last nine games, clearly beginning to find some rhythm in the attacking third.
A large part of this turnaround is the emergence of Beto under Moyes, who has scored five Premier League goals in his last five Premier League games, becoming a vital part of the Toffees attack.
Whilst summer signing, Iliman Ndiaye has been a huge success, making 28 appearances and scoring eight goals.
Without the 24-year-old, Everton lack that creative spark and inevitability in attack, which a star they sold over five years ago definitely had.

Everton must rue £22.5m sale
Back in 2019, Everton made the sale of a certain Ademola Lookman to RB Leipzig, selling the England U21 forward for a fee of around £22.5m.
Whilst at the time, this could have been seen as a good fee for the youngster, who had only scored four times in 48 appearances, Lookman is now tearing it up in Serie A, scoring 34 goals over the last season and a half, leading to a Ballon d’Or nomination and a new transfer valuation of around £45m according to Transfermarkt.
When you compare the metrics of Lookman’s 2018/19 season at Everton and his 2024/25 campaign so far with Atalanta, you can see how and why his value has doubled.
Indeed, his output has gone through the roof, notably now demonstrating far more clinical finishing in front of goal and he has even nearly doubled his shot-volume.

Lookman has been labelled “incredible” during his time in Serie A by Statman Dave on X (formerly Twitter), and Everton may rue their decision to sell him so early, with his value now having doubled, as he enters his prime years.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Raphinha etched his name into the Champions League history books after equalling Ronaldo’s long-standing record for the most goal involvements in a single campaign. The Brazilian struck late in a pulsating 4-3 loss to Inter, bringing his tally to a staggering 21 goal contributions in the 2024–25 tournament.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Ronaldo had set the benchmark during Real Madrid’s victorious run in 2013–14, registering 17 goals and four assists over the course of the competition. That campaign concluded with a decisive penalty from the Portuguese icon in the final against Atlético Madrid, securing a 4-1 triumph in extra time and delivering Real’s coveted “La Decima.” Now, over a decade later, Raphinha has matched that iconic figure with a dazzling blend of goals and assists that have driven Barcelona’s charge through Europe this season. However, his late effort was not enough to fire Barcelona over the line as Inter emerged 4-3 winners, thanks to an extra-time goal from Davide Frattesi.
DID YOU KNOW?
Under new boss Hansi Flick, Raphinha has flourished in a revitalised Barca setup. He’s amassed 13 goals and eight assists across 12 Champions League appearances this term. Thanks to UEFA’s revamped Champions League structure introduced this season, Raphinha and his team-mates played two additional fixtures in the group stage. Overall, across all competitions, he has 31 goals and 25 assists in 52 appearances.

WHAT NEXT FOR RAPHINHA?
Raphinha will be back in action for another titanic clash this weekend as they are set to face arch-rivals Real Madrid in a crucial La Liga fixture. With domestic points at a premium and the title race still open, the pressure will be on both sides.
da dobrowin: Everton are thought to be ready to make a move for a Premier League player at the end of the season, according to a fresh transfer claim.
Everton transfer news
da betsul: With the Blues now feeling safe from relegation this season, there will be plenty of focus on potential summer signings to help bolster David Moyes’ squad.
That said, there are also some players who could depart when the campaign reaches its conclusion, with one report claiming that Jack Harrison’s loan switch won’t be made permanent. The winger is in his second temporary spell at Goodison Park from Leeds, but it looks like his time at the club will come to an end.

Meanwhile, Everton have a battle on their hands to retain the services of Jarrad Branthwaite, with the England international such an impressive performer at the heart of the Blues’ defence over the past year or so. Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing him, summing up the level he has reached.
In terms of possible incoming signings, Tottenham ace Manor Solomon has been linked with a move to the Merseysiders, once his loan stint at Leeds comes to an end this summer.
Everton pushing to sign Premier League ace
According to The Boot Room‘s Graeme Bailey, Everton and the Friedkin Group are ready to make an approach for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard ahead of the summer transfer window.
Fellow Premier League pair Fulham and Bournemouth are also believed to be eyeing up the 30-year-old, who right now, could be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season, assuming he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Norgaard could be a really astute signing by Everton, not necessarily coming in as a flair player who lights up games, but bringing plenty of experience and industry in the middle of the park.
The Brentford captain has enjoyed another good season in west London, starting 23 Premier League games and registering five goal contributions (three goals and two assists), while manager Thomas Frank has shown how much he appreciates him as a player, saying:
“So pleasing, so pleased, he’s a key player for us. Every team has one or two players that is the glue, makes the team tick, or better just by stepping on pitch. Norgaard is one of the players that does that for us. The amount of interceptions, second balls he wins, his ability to keep the ball and play the pass forward is key.”
Norgaard is a player who could thrive under Moyes, with the Scot no doubt admiring his midfield attributes, and while he isn’t getting any younger, he could do an excellent job for several years.

Hopefully, Abdoulaye Doucoure doesn’t leave Everton at the end of the season, but if he does, the Brentford ace would help fill the void in a key area of the pitch, making this one to watch.
Former Tottenham Hotspur scout Bryan King is “sure” two players will be trying to convince an “exciting” midfielder to move to north London in the summer.
Tottenham eyeing summer move for midfielder
Tottenham were forced into action during the January transfer window, with Ange Postecoglou in need of reinforcements in light of the injury crisis the manager has been forced to deal with over the past few months.
To ensure a similar situation does not arise again, however, Postecoglou may feel he needs more squad depth, and Spurs are thought to be pursuing a new central midfielder, identifying a number of targets.
Johnny Cardoso is thought to be of particular interest, with the Real Betis midfielder set to be available for the relatively low fee of £21m due to a release clause in his contract, which the Lilywhites are planning to activate.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson is another long-standing target for Tottenham, who has also attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, and there has now been a new update on the pursuit of the midfielder.
Former Spurs scout King has now claimed Swedish duo Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall will play a pivotal role in convincing the midfielder to move to N17 this summer when they link up with Larsson on international duty.
King said: “They have already brought Bergvall in, for a lot less of course. Larsson moved out of Sweden before Bergvall did and he has since established himself in Germany. Spurs should be looking at these players before they make the move to Holland or Germany.
“However, I’m sure that Kulusevski and Bergvall will be recommending the club to Larsson to help get a transfer across the line. They’ll obviously meet up on international duty, and I imagine they will be selling life at Tottenham to Larsson.”
"Exciting" Larsson impressing in Germany
Although he is still just 20-years-old, the Swedish maestro has established himself as a key player for Frankfurt this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions, during which time he has amassed five goals and one assist.
Sky Sports Germany journalist Kerry Hau has been full of praise for the youngster, in light of his top-drawer performances, saying: “Hugo Larsson is one of Eintracht Frankfurt’s shooting stars and is currently one of the most exciting midfielders in the Bundesliga,”
Of course, it would be useful for Tottenham if Bergvall and Kuluveski make an attempt to lure their compatriot to north London this summer, but the truth is it will still be very difficult to win the race for his signature.
Barring a Europa League triumph, it seems very likely Spurs won’t have European football on offer next season, which could play a big part in Larsson’s decision-making, amid interest from Arsenal, Bayern and a number of other clubs who are set to be in the Champions League.

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has not been picked either.ESPNcricinfo LtdThis is the first squad chosen by the newly installed men’s senior selection panel and they appear to have bought into the idea of needing batters who can go big from ball one, starting with the two rookies. Varma, who had a fan in Mahela Jayawardene even before he faced a ball of IPL cricket, has only grown in stature since then. Former Arsenal forward Jermaine Pennant has told Football FanCast that Mikel Arteta’s transfer plans may have changed ahead of the summer transfer window.
Title race hotting up
The Gunners’ Premier League title hopes were boosted by Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on Wednesday, now sitting eight points behind the Reds with a game in hand, though they may still be left to rue the decision not to bring in any new signings in January.
Rather than signing a new striker, Arteta made the call to stick with Kai Havertz, but the German has since been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, joining a number of other first-team players on the treatment table.
Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are also sidelined, while Bukayo Saka is expected to be out for at least another month, leaving Arteta light on options in attack, and the manager has been increasingly reliant on young players.
Exclusive: Ex-Arsenal player has one fear with Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly
The teenage duo have started to establish themselves as first-team regulars for the Gunners.
ByDominic Lund Feb 19, 2025
Ethan Nwaneri has come into the fold since Saka was ruled out, picking up three goals and an assist in the Premier League this season, while Myles Lewis-Skelly has also received increased game time at left-back.
When asked whether the emergence of Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly could impact Arsenal’s summer transfer plans, Pennant told Football FanCast: “I think so, you’ve seen now that Nwaneri can be a more than suitable replacement for Saka. You can put him in – like Liverpool throwing in a Gakpo or Diaz – and either/or you’re happy with. So with Nwaneri and Saka they’ve got that right hand side in a good place.
Arsenal's EthanNwanericelebrates scoring their fifth goal
“Lewis-Skelly at left back, he’s proven that he’s more than capable in that position, so again they don’t really need to focus on that.
“So I think that’s helped them going into the market to really now finally focus on a good number nine.”
Alexander Isak's price tag drops
Pennant’s suggestion that Arteta could focus on signing a striker this summer comes at the same time as the news that Alexander Isak’s price tag has now dropped to £83m, in what could be a real boost for the Gunners.
While still a large fee, Isak has been incredible in the Premier League this season, scoring 17 goals and picking up five assists in 23 games, which indicates the Swedish forward would be worth Arsenal breaking the bank for at the end of the season.
Although Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly are still teenagers, they have shown maturity beyond their years since emerging as first-team stars this season, with Arteta’s side showing no signs of slowing down in the Premier League title race since Saka’s injury.
As such, the Gunners’ main priority this summer has to be bringing in an out-and-out striker who can guarantee goals, and Isak, who has been described as “world-class” by members of the media, certainly fits the bill in that regard.
Manchester United have now made a proposal of Rasmus Hojlund plus cash to sign “the best striker in the world”, and his club would be open to a deal of that nature, according to a journalist.
Hojlund struggling in the Premier League
Hojlund has regularly found himself on the scoresheet in the Europa League, netting five times in the league phase, but the majority of the Dane’s goals came against relatively weak opposition in Bodo/Glimt and Viktoria Plzen.
The 22-year-old has struggled against tougher teams in the Premier League, netting just two goals in 23 appearances this term and failing to find the back of the net since scoring in the 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest back in December.
Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has also been an unreliable source of goals, scoring six in 42 games in all competitions, so it is little wonder Man United are looking to bring in a new striker when summer comes around.
Man Utd could now move for "outstanding" £84m striker instead of Osimhen
The Red Devils have identified a potential alternative to the Nigerian.
ByDominic Lund Mar 11, 2025
Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has emerged as a target for the Red Devils, and journalist Luca Cerchione has now dropped an interesting update on their pursuit of the Nigerian, suggesting a proposal has already been made.
Galatasaray's VictorOsimhencelebrates scoring a goal that was later disallowed
Cerchione said: “Keep an eye on the Rasmus Højlund trail, which was reported to me last week.
“United have proposed Højlund to Napoli as part of the deal that could bring Victor Osimhen to Manchester United. In order for Osimhen’s price tag to drop, they will also talk about Højlund, who Conte likes a lot. We’ll see, we’ll follow this lead. €40m, plus Højlund, would be a deal in favour of Napoli.”
Osimhen is known to have a £62m release clause in his Napoli contract, but United are seemingly keen on a deal of a different nature, which would allow them to get an underperforming striker off the books.
Osimhen could be "the best striker in the world"
It would be a shame to see Hojlund leave United so soon, considering he is still young at 22 and may go on to become a top striker, but Ruben Amorim’s side cannot pass up the opportunity to sign the Nigeria international, should Napoli be keen on a swap deal.
The 26-year-old was lauded as “the best striker in the world” by members of the media during his time with Napoli, and he has since gone on to impress on loan at Galatasaray this season, netting 23 goals in 29 games in all competitions.
There are also signs of interest on the player’s end, with previous reports suggesting the Galatasaray star is open to talks over a move to Old Trafford this summer, indicating a move could be a real possibility.
It is imperative Man United sign a striker this summer, given their current options’ struggles in front of goal this season, so it is exciting news they have now made a proposal for one of the world’s best.
Chelsea returned to fourth in the Premier League for the time being, after beating Southampton 4-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, with goals coming from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella.
They also kept their first clean sheet in the Premier League since December 22nd, when they drew 0-0 with Everton at Goodison Park. The Blues have conceded 36 goals in 27 games so far this season.
Despite only facing seven shots against the Saints, they did create two “big chances” with their two shots on target, generating 0.72 xG and forcing Chelsea’s new shot-stopper into action.
Chelsea's rising star
Filip Jorgensen was signed in the summer by Chelsea, joining from Villarreal for a fee of around £20.7m.
First Impressions
Since arriving, the 22-year-old has been the number two keeper, making 17 appearances so far for the Blues, most of which have come in cup competitions, conceding 18 goals in total and keeping six clean sheets.
However, in recent weeks, thanks to the poor form of Robert Sanchez, Jorgensen has been made Chelsea number one according to Enzo Maresca, which has seen him start the previous four Premier League fixtures against West Ham, Brighton, Aston Villa and Southampton.
Whilst Jorgensen did make a big mistake of his own against Villa, he has clearly done enough to earn the trust of Maresca for the time being, both on the ball and making important saves, which will allow the Italian to fully axe one of their worst performers this campaign.
Chelsea can now finally sell £60k-p/w flop
Since Sanchez joined Chelsea back in 2023 for a fee of around £25m, the 27-year-old has made 43 appearances for the Blues, conceding 59 goals in total and only keeping nine clean sheets, totalling 3,864 minutes played.
When the £60k-per-week flop was first signed, sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart were “excited” by his arrival:
That said, things haven’t turned out quite as planned….

When comparing both Sanchez and Jorgensen’s underlying numbers so far this season, the 22-year-old shot-stopper comes out on top, making more saves despite having fewer shots taken against him, conceding fewer goals and even having a higher pass completion.
Having the ability to play short-circuit passes around the back to attract the opposition press is very important to Maresca’s system, and the fact Jorgensen is doing it without making the same mistakes as Sanchez – or at least to a much lesser degree – is another positive sign for the Blues.
With Jorgensen now Chelsea’s number one, it is in his hands to make that position his own, keeping Sanchez out of the fray and finally allowing Maresca to settle on one goalkeeper, with Sanchez’s future potentially now lying elsewhere.
With the former Brighton man having made five errors leading to a goal in the Premier League in 2024/25 alone, Winstanley and Co’s initial excitement has undoubtedly disappeared.
